Diners will be able to order CBD in all food and drink at forthcoming cafe

As Illinois prepares to legalize recreational marijuana on January 1, the CBD wave slamming Chicago restaurants and bars should reach new heights late this summer due to a punny new cafe in Lakeview. A boozy new all-day brunch spot that’s really named Wake ‘N Bacon is slated to open before fall at 420 W. Belmont Avenue, which will give diners and drinkers the option to add CBD to every food and drink item on the menu. Owners Gabriel and Sarah Ayala, who have past experience at Chicago spots Safehouse and Dragonfly among others, plan the space to have “kaleidoscopic hues of pink and blue” and a huge indoor tree, and drink options will include “decadently-garnished” cocktails, according to a news release and the Tribune. While drinks with CBD have become commonplace in Chicago recently, food with CBD is still more rare, so stay tuned for opening news on this spot.

Michelin-starred West Town restaurant loses a co-executive chef

One of Temporis’ two executive chefs has left Michelin-starred restaurant in West Town. Don Young, who previously split the chef duties with Sam Plotnick, says that he no longer works at the fine-dining restaurant on Ashland Avenue. “Temporis and I have decided to part ways,” Young wrote in an email. “I am unsure what the future will bring.” Troy Jorge, who has experience at Acadia and Grace, has taken Young’s place and is now the sole executive chef, as Plotnick now focuses on front of the house, the restaurant announced in a statement. The small tasting-menu restaurant opened in January 2017 and gained mostly positive reviews; Plotnick and Young were both nominated for 2018 Jean Banchet Awards for Rising Chef of the Year, the restaurant won a 2019 award for Best Service, and it was awarded a Michelin star last fall.

One of Boystown’s longtime gay bars is for sale

One of Boystown’s longest-tenured gay bars is for sale during Pride month. A parcel of land is for sale on North Halsted Street that includes longtime bar Little Jim’s — which has been open since 1975 — and neighboring establishment Big Jim’s for a cool $7.5 million, Chicago magazine reports. They both currently remain open.

Forthcoming pop culture festival will offer food from many popular local restaurants

Harold’s Chicken, J.P. Graziano and Mott St. are just the tip of the iceberg for food selections at a forthcoming pop culture festival. The first Chicago edition of Complexcon, coming to McCormick Place on July 20 and 21, will also offer food and drink from Dark Matter, Dorian’s, the forthcoming Good Fortune, Moon Palace, and many more, according to a news release and Time Out Chicago.

Downtown Chicago chef bests Bobby Flay on Food Network

And finally, apparently the Dearborn chef Aaron Cuschieri makes better fish and chips than TV chef Bobby Flay. Cuschieri won a fish and chips episode of Beat Bobby Flay, which first aired on the Food Network last Thursday evening.
